Big Country, We Need You
Let me take you back to this past Thursday. It's Thanksgiving, a couple of hours before the turkey comes out, and your belly starts to grumble. You simply can't wait until someone carves the thing and it ends up on your plate. Now take the feeling of hunger, couple it with intense fear and worry, and try and relive it, every single day. That's not just a once a year, two hours before the turkey timer goes off kind of thing for an astounding amount of people in are area. Hunger has become a dangerous reality.
To me one of the most disturbing aspects of life is the persistence of hunger. According to our local food banks website, around 50,000 people live in poverty and miss meals or experience hunger right here in the big country. That number was shocking to me.
But there is something so simple that we can do. On December 9th, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., come by the KRBC studios, and bring us a can of food. If you don't have one or can't find one, bring us a dollar. Whatever you can do to help those in need in the Big Country, please do it. There are too many families worried about where their next bite comes from, instead of where they will eat their Christmas ham.
